Climate change is driving an unprecedented transformation in the global energy sector. The energy industry is transitioning to a low carbon, decentralised future, facing a wide range of engineering and economic challenges along the way .  Do you want to be part of this journey?

Recent projects include:

  • Undertaking market due diligence and market modelling, including forecasting electricity prices, transmission constraints, generation curtailment, and auxiliary market outcomes to support the financing, acquisition, sale and valuation of solar farms, wind farms, batteries and pumped hydro plants.
  • Assessing the long-term outlook for demand and supply in the gas industry, including forecasting prices, emissions, and security of supply within the sector to support the development of a gas transition plan.
  • Providing assurance to Transpower on their implementation of the new transmission pricing methodology which relies on the determination of beneficiaries of transmission infrastructure.
  • Providing analysis and support to policy makers and regulators including MBIE, the Electricity Authority, the Gas Industry Co., and EECA.

As our  Manager, Power System Modelling,

  • You will be expected to conduct a range of power system studies including power flow and EMT studies to enable the team to provide our clients with evidence-based insights that enable informed decision making .
  • In parallel with client engagements, you will also have the opportunity to target your learning and development towards key areas of interest

Ō Pūmanawa I What we’re looking for

Here’s our ‘wish list’ but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go.

  • Tertiary education in electrical engineering or a related field,
  • The ability to perform power systems studies such as power flow, stability, and system strength modelling,
  • The ability to perform grid connection studies using PSSE and PSCAD,
  • The ability to work with our broader electricity market modelling team to inform power system planning and network development planning,
  • High numeracy levels and the ability, or a willingness to develop the ability, to manipulate and analyse large data sets efficiently,
  • High computer literacy. Currently, we use Excel, Python, SQL, Microsoft VBA and Matlab. We will provide time and training if you can demonstrate your willingness and ability to learn a new programming language,
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to successfully convey meaningful insights to clients and colleagues.

The salary range for this role is expected to be NZD 113,000 to NZD 140,000 dependent on skills and experience. This full-time role is for a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.
