About us
The key work of the Strategy Team is to deliver the District Strategy and Area Plans, as well as the associated action plans. This work will influence the type and location of housing; the shape and feel of neighborhoods; the efficiency and sustainability of transport options; the well-being of communities; the vitality of businesses and centers; the integrity of the natural environment; and the resilience of Selwyn's infrastructure.
The role
As a member of the strategy team, you will be supporting the development and delivery of key strategies for the district. The job involves strategic thinking and high-quality analysis. On big projects with long timeframes there will be times of collaboration and individual work with people needing to manage their time well. The day can bring any number of challenges and being able to deal with the unexpected is important.
• Developing spatial plans and strategies to support the growth and wellbeing of the district
• Providing analysis of data and information, including household and economic forecasts
• Representing the council in regional groups (e.g., Greater Christchurch Partnership)
• Contributing to project timeframes, deliverables, and budgets
• Monitoring external consultants, project timeframes, deliverables, and budgets

About you
To be successful, a minimum of three years' experience in planning or resource management environment, with a proven record of work demonstrating strategic thinking and analysis. Ideally you will have planning and policy experience, either working in local or national government or through a consultancy that works in that space. Working well with the team, supporting, and encouraging is needed. Selwyn district is growing fast, and we need good people to deliver strategies to make this place an example of how to plan well. You will have the Knowledge and practical application of the Resource Management Act 1991 and the Local Government Act 2002.
