Looking for a part-time role that fits around your studies? Interested in technology and enjoy helping others? Join the AskOtago Student IT team and gain valuable work experience while studying at Otago.

This role is ideal for university students who want to develop practical skills in customer service, communication, problem solving and IT support within a professional and supportive environment.

These roles are available for the 2027 academic year, February to November.

About the Team | Mō te Tīma

AskOtago Student IT is part of AskOtago, the University of Otago's service centre, and provides frontline IT support to students, staff, and visitors. As one of the first points of contact for technology-related enquiries, our team helps customers access and use University systems, software, devices, and digital services.

Our approach combines excellent customer service with practical technical support. We believe great IT support starts with understanding people's needs and helping them find the right solution.

The Role | Te Mahi

As an Assistant Service Representative (IT), you will provide frontline support for a wide range of technology-related enquiries. Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, you will help customers across multiple service channels and contribute to a positive customer experience.

Key responsibilities include:
•    Providing friendly and professional IT support to students, staff, and visitors.
•    Assisting with software, login, account, and device-related enquiries.
•    Supporting customers to access and use University systems and digital services.
•    Maintaining student computer and printing spaces across campus.
•    Troubleshooting common technical issues and escalating more complex problems when required.
•    Maintaining accurate records of customer interactions.
•    Contributing to continuous improvement and service excellence.

No specialist IT qualifications are required. We're looking for people with a genuine interest in technology and helping others. Full training will be provided.

We are looking for people who:

•    Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
•    Take pride in delivering high-quality service.

Previous experience in customer service, retail, hospitality, administration, or technical support will be viewed favourably but is not essential.

Further Details | Pūroko

These are fixed term (February 2027 – November 2027), variable hour positions, based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

There are multiple positions available. Successful applicants will be required to:
•    Work between 10 and 20 hours per week during semester time.
•    Be available to work additional hours during peak periods, including opportunities for full-time work during semester breaks and other non-teaching periods.

The appointment range for this role is $59,494 to $63,000. Top of range $68,847 per year.
