Summer Internship - Underground Mine Engineer

Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Mine Engineering looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect internship opportunity for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.  



This paid internship opportunity will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) and will work in our talented underground engineering team, on-site at Macraes. Initial roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, until trained up before moving to an 8 on, 6 off roster.

What will you be doing?

• Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
• Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process
• Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements

Specific project work will involve:

This role will see you based in our underground mine office, assisting to the drill and blast engineering team. 

Key responsibilities will include:

• Designing production drill holes and charge plans for safe and efficient stope ore extraction
• Working closely with the team to gain practical experience 
• Going underground for hands-on learning 

• Full Class 1 Drivers licence (ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred)
• Available across Nov-February 2025/26
• In your 2nd last or final year of study in Mine Engineering
• Have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru and surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily
• Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
