About our summer law programme

Our Summer Law Programme runs from November to February and gives you a real insight into life at Anthony Harper.

From early on, you’ll be involved in meaningful work, working alongside partners and senior lawyers across different practice areas. It’s a chance to step beyond the classroom and experience what commercial law looks like in practice, while figuring out where your interests might take you.

You’ll have a buddy to help you find your feet and plenty of support from lawyers at all levels. We’re big on sharing knowledge and making sure you feel confident in what you’re doing, so you’ll receive practical training, regular feedback and guidance from some of New Zealand’s leading legal experts.

What makes the experience even better is the culture. We offer the variety and quality of work you’d expect from a large firm, but in an environment where people are approachable, doors are open and it’s easy to connect. Whether it’s through team catch-ups, firm events or everyday conversations, you’ll quickly feel part of the wider team.

About you

You’ll most likely be in your penultimate year of law school and interested in building a career in commercial law.

While your academic performance matters, we’re just as interested in who you are beyond your grades. We’re looking for curiosity, initiative and energy. People who ask thoughtful questions, get involved and want to make the most of every opportunity. Life experience, part-time jobs, volunteering, sport, leadership, it all counts!

Later stages of our process include an online assessment, an opportunity to catch up with some of our juniors to ask questions and gain more insight into our summer law programme and firm, and finally you will have an interview with a partner, a senior lawyer and a member of our people and culture team.
