Technical Communicator Intern

Intern with our Information Experience (IX) team and help redesign how users discover and apply product knowledge where the digital and physical meet.

In this internship position, you will move beyond traditional documentation to influence the entire user journey, assisting a busy team in crafting learning experiences that make complex machine control systems feel effortless for operators worldwide.

This role offers the unique opportunity to work within a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar, experimenting with emerging trends like AI-assisted writing and embedded video. You will spend your summer directly impacting how operators interact with heavy earthmoving equipment by transforming complex technical data into seamless, integrated content experiences.

Key Exciting Responsibilities 

• Design and deliver high-impact content, including technical writing, video integration, and UI-integrated help. 

• Create high-quality icons, illustrations, and technical diagrams to simplify complex workflows for operators and technicians. 

• Collaborate with global experts in Engineering, UX/IX, and Product to advocate for a customer-first mindset.

•  Assist the User Assistance team with source control (Git/GitHub) and streamline documentation processes. 

• Optimize content design by researching user behavior and conducting validation testing to solve real-world pain points.

Essential Skills & Experience

•  Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program in Technical Writing, Multimedia Design, UI/UX Design, or Digital Media. 

• Technical writing ability to balance accuracy with accessibility for diverse personas. 

• Competency in source control tools like Git or GitHub. 

• Strong attention to detail and a passion for simplifying technology through clear communication. 

• Must be legally authorised to work in New Zealand.

Bonus Points For 

• Experience with content tools such as MadCap Flare or HTML. 

• Previous experience or interest in research skills. 

• Familiarity with multimedia production or digital media.
