Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Patient Services Department is currently seeking two motivated and enthusiastic Trainees to join our friendly team at our Auckland Laboratory. These are permanent, full-time positions of 80 hours per fortnight.

This is an exciting opportunity to start and grow your career in a supportive, professional environment where you’ll receive hands-on training and ongoing development. You’ll play an important role in supporting patients and contributing to the smooth delivery of high-quality laboratory services within the community.

We are looking for candidates who are available to work across one of the following areas:

• Central and surrounding Auckland suburbs including Victoria Park, the CBD, Waiheke Island, Pt Chevalier, and Mt Eden.


• Eastern and southern Auckland suburbs including Panmure, Glen Innes, Greenlane, St Heliers, Meadowbank, Mercy Hospital, Ascot Hospital, and Remuera.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect blood samples from patients in both community and hospital settings.


• Handle and manage contained biological specimens, including blood, faeces, urine, and tissue, in accordance with safety and compliance standards.


• Ensure accurate labelling, handling, and transport of patient specimens.


• Support the processing and testing of specimens within a state-of-the-art medical laboratory.


• Maintain patient care, confidentiality, and quality standards at all times.

• Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.


• Respect for always ensuring patient confidentiality and in all matters. 


• Good computer skills.


• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

If you are not already registered with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand, we will support you working towards becoming a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician within 2 years of employment.
