Awanui Labs - Dunedin (previously known as SCL) provides high quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, healthcare professionals and their patients. Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Our Patient Services Department is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Trainee or Phlebotomist to join our team. This is a casual position with flexible availability, including full days or morning and afternoon shifts, offering valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to develop your skills in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collecting blood, handling contained specimens such as human blood, faeces, and tissue, and preparing these specimens for transport


• Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.

To be considered for this role you will need to:

• Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.


• Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.

• Good computer skills.


• A full, current driver’s licence.


• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

If you are not already registered with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand, we will support you working towards becoming a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician
within 2 years of employment.
