Job Description - Project Manager - Specialist - Part-Time

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
This is a fixed-term or secondment opportunity to cover a period of parental leave. This can also be a part time role from 25 hours per week depending on your own situation, we are able to negotiate what works for you.
The role sits within our SouthPAN programme of work which is one of our most diverse and interesting projects. SouthPAN (Southern Positioning Augmentation Network) will improve the accuracy and reliability of satellite-based positioning systems in New Zealand and Australia. If you have an interest in space-based projects then this is one of the most appealing projects to be on.
You will be in a Wellington based team of technical and passionate people with backgrounds in engineering, aviation, satellite navigation and positioning, so a very interesting bunch of people.
The wider virtual team includes people from Geoscience Australia, who you will be working with daily. The team also includes with multiple stakeholders located in Australia, US, Spain and the UK. This means that some flexibility may be required to collaborate across different time zones.
This position's purpose is to contribute to the SouthPAN programme by:
  • Using project management expertise to facilitate land acquisition and oversee contractor civil works activities at sites across New Zealand and Australia,
  • Actively managing the MS Project schedule to ensure successful project outcomes,
  • Providing insight and advice on operational and strategic matters,
  • Identifying, and proactively managing risks and emerging issues, and developing effective responses to business challenges,
  • Actively collaborating with your colleagues from across Toitū Te Whenua and Geoscience Australia to ensure your advice is connected and customer centric,
  • Presenting written communication, documentation, and numerical reports in a professional manner, and
  • Identifying and resolving issues and problems that arise, ensuring they are effectively dealt with by the appropriate project team members.

  • Experience in the project management of physical infrastructure projects, ideally in a public sector setting,
  • Demonstratable experience in the implementation of scheduling concepts, Gantt chart development and maintenance using MS Project, and the development of work breakdown structures,
  • Understanding of systems development life cycles and systems engineering methodologies,
  • Proven relationship building skills with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders,
  • Experience actively working with diverse stakeholders both internal and externally.
The annual salary range for this role is: $100,000 – $120,000 dependant on skills and experience. Ngā mea e tukuna ana e tātau – What we offer our employees
