Job Description - Accountant/Financial Consultant - Schools - Part-Time

Our Company

EdTech Financial Services has been providing accounting services to schools across the Auckland region for more than 30 years. 

Our accountants manage their own portfolio of schools within a friendly, supportive and high-trust team environment.  Some of our consultants work part-time during school terms only. We are very flexible. Our people are self-motivated and operate independently, managing their own portfolio of schools including site visits and meetings. Almost all our work is done WFH, or during our regular visits to schools. 

We are based at lovely offices in Parnell, but for the most part we work from home, with monthly visits to schools. 

 

The Role

We need to grow our team. We are seeking another experienced accountant with a good work history who is looking for a permanent role. 

The right person will be someone who steps forward, takes responsibility, builds positive relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders, is able to work under pressure when necessary, and has a sense of humour. Cultural competence is important. Experience in schools would be an advantage.

A part-time role is also possible by negotiation. 

 

Salary and conditions

  • Dependent on experience and role agreed, likely between $80,000 - $90,000 pa. (pro-rata for part-time role.  
  • Flexible hours, WFH encouraged.
  • Mileage paid at IRD rates - driver's licence and a car required.
  • Hours negotiable - Term time/school hours may be possible.

 

Responsibilities

The core duties involve:

  • Monthly financial reporting to school Boards
  • Preparation of statutory annual accounts
  • Bank and GL reconciliations
  • Fixed assets and depreciation
  • Variance analysis
  • Preparing GST returns
  • Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets /Mahere Pūtea
  • Providing advisory support for clients

 

Requirements

  • A strong base of accounting knowledge, ideally with a CA qualification or similar.
  • The ability to engage with clients to build strong relationships.
  • Good communication skills, both spoken and written English.
  • Cultural competence/comfort with Treaty of Waitangi
  • A positive attitude with a willingness to help others.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Accuracy, efficiency with great attention to detail
  • Sound working knowledge of Xero and Excel is essential.
  • At least five years of successful experience as an accountant
