Job Description - Case Worker - Hiring Immediately - Part-Time

Case Worker - South Auckland (Part - Time)

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Crisis Response and Management (Planning, developing and implementing services in order to respond to crisis):

  • Crisis calls and referrals are responded to immediately. Clients are picked up and transported as per Shakti’s policy.
    Clients are settled at the safe house (or alternative accommodation if applicable).
  • Accurate intake assessment for clients in an efficient and timely manner adhering to Shakti’s policies at all times.
  • Returning Risk Assessment conducted with accuracy.
  • Ensure clients’ needs are identified and agreed ‘Plan of Action’ is executed and followed up. Appropriate documentation is filed in the client file.
  • Client confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Individual clients action planning:

  • Collection of information is done in a culturally appropriate manner. Clients’ needs are met in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of clients is done consistently.

Primary Advocacy:

  • Liaising and advocating for clients with various government departments, including Work and Income, Housing New Zealand, police and courts and ensure that client receives adequate support for her case.
    Advocacy should be based on the empowerment model.
  • Maintain existing networks and develop new networks with key agencies such as Police, Court, Immigration and Mental Health:
  • Identify current network members and maintain ongoing correspondence.
    Establish communication links with external agencies like local refuges, courts, hospitals, lawyers, police, national network, ethnic communities, women’s network etc.
  • Appropriately assessing and responding to crisis calls while working and rostered on for evening duty: Calls are screened according to the policy.
  • Pick-up procedures are followed correctly.
  • Attend to drop-in clients and assess them.
  • Culturally appropriate referrals are made, if required. 
  • Documentation of all calls is recorded correctly in the phone log.

Client related Documentation Management and reporting:

  • Statistics are collated and recorded following the correct procedure using Excess database. Cases are ‘closed’ and reasons specified on Excess when client no longer uses Shakti’s services. 
  • Client paper files are completed and stored in the appropriate manner.
  • Weekly team meetings are attended to discuss day-to-day operations of the Centre.
  • Prepare and submit fortnightly client reports.
  • Contribute to the monthly reports and case studies.
    Incident reporting.
  • Be available to be rostered during Christmas holiday and see all year end closing procedures are completed.
  • Attend internal and external meetings relating to the Centre: Regular participation at internal and external meetings
  • Responsible for accurate and timely submission of report: Monthly reports.
    Excess Database.
  • Maintain Excess databases for all clients.

Meeting:

  • Attend professional and personal development training:
    Regularly attend training organized by the Centre and National office.
  • Attend Meetings, Supervision, Training & Professional Development:
  • Regular attendance at Supervision to ensure safe practice and client wellbeing. Staff counselling services are accessed towards maintaining self-care.

Ethnic Women’s Development:

  • Work with Ethnic Women to promote awareness of family violence in the community and support organizing community workshop, seminar, program.

Events Management:

  • Assist in organizing AGM and take initiative in organizing events during International Women’s Day, any campaign or events nationally or locally.

Life Skill Programme:

  • Work closely with the coordinator and the administrator to provide life skill program for all clients. Working closely with SDETAT or external provider.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be punctual and work the hours and times specified.
  • Prioritise workload to ensure work of the greatest importance to the business is undertaken with urgency and to a high standard.
  • Support and help develop a positive workplace culture.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Responsibly manage all business resources within accountability levels.
  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description and all other duties as required by the business.
  • Comply with all employment obligations.
  • Promptly undertake to complete all reasonable and lawful instructions and directions given.

During work time, and such other times as may be reasonably required, dedicate all effort to the execution and fulfilment of the duties, responsibilities, obligations and instructions related to employment.

Demonstrate through own actions a commitment to Health and Safety at work when undertaking work or observing others in the workplace.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Qualification in Social Work or Psychology.
    Work experience in the Social Work sector / Case work sector in New Zealand or overseas.
  • Be passionate about working with women and children and ensuring their safety while promoting women’s empowerment.
  • Be available to work based on a roster for crisis attendance.
  • Be able to work well under pressure; prioritises effectively and be confident in making decisions that impact on clients’ well-being.
  • Be a good team player and support team mates proactively when required.
  • Open to understanding the complex dynamics surrounding family and gender-based violence and have a women’s rights perspective.
  • Have a fair understanding, empathetic and patient manner of working in a cross-cultural environment. 
  • Fluent in at least one Asian, Middle Eastern or African language is desirable.
  • Be excellent in spoken and written English language skills.
    Have a full, valid driving license and reliable transport.
