Family Drug Support Aotearoa New Zealand is a Not-For-Profit organisation, providing support to family and whānau impacted by a loved one’s alcohol and/or other drug use. 

As a national provider of services focusing specifically on impacted family and whānau, the organisation, established in 2018, offers a range of psycho-educational counselling and other counselling and support services, mainly via Telehealth (Zoom). We operate throughout Aotearoa and have a small team of employed personnel alongside 40 volunteers. More than half of the team are Accredited Practitioners, many of whom are registered counsellors or psychologists and other social service professionals. We strive to provide empathetic, evidence-based services that promote health and wellbeing for individuals, families, and communities.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

We are looking for a motivated professional who is passionate about making a difference in people's lives to join and lead our organisation.

You will work collaboratively with the Co-Executive Officer (Strategy) to manage the operational service of Family Drug Support to achieve the desired outcomes of the organisation. This 50% clinical and 50% business role will see you performing the various services we provide alongside leading and managing staff and volunteers, marketing of services, relationship management and the day to day running of a high quality evidence-based service.

This role will allow you to use your expertise, managerial experience, business knowledge and organisational skills to lead a nationwide service based in Christchurch.

This is a permanent part-time role (30 hours per week), based at Christchurch Community House in Lichfield St.

Our services for family/whānau impacted by a loved one’s alcohol or other drug use include:

  • Single session consultations
  • 5-Step (Session) psycho-educational counselling programme
  • 5-Step (Session) psycho-educational counselling youth programme for 16-24 year olds
  • Group online support
  • Subsidised counselling and other special situation counselling sessions

We would love to hear from you if you consider you meet the following requirements for the role:

Qualifications and Experience

  • AOD experience – AOD qualifications preferred 
  • Psychology or counselling postgraduate or tertiary qualification 
  • Psychology registration, and/or counselling registration, and/or social work registration 
  • Experience in registered field 
  • Business management and strategy 
  • Team management and leadership 
  • Social sector and/or not-for-profit sector experience desirable 
  • Lived family/whānau experience of mental health and/or AOD is preferable

Other

  • Tertiary qualification (minimum Level 7) e.g. Bachelor in management, nursing, social services, or psychology
  • Relevant work experience, including at least three years experience in a similar role in mental health, AOD, disability, health care, or social services
  • At least one year's experience in leading and managing teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Great time management skills
  • Flexibility to travel for meetings and professional development events
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand 
  • Have a clean full NZ driver's licence and your own transport
