Job Title: Communications Officer

Location: New Zealand: Auckland, Henderson. 

Position: Permanent Part-time (14-21 hours/week)

Shakti’s Vision:

“To provide culturally appropriate/competent services as a lead agency for the domestic violence intervention/advocacy, safe house facility for the migrant and the refugee women from Asian, African and Middle Eastern background in Aotearoa, New Zealand.”

Role: 

The Communication Officer will be responsible for managing various communication tasks to enhance the visibility, presentation and effectiveness of the organization’s messaging and projects. The successful application will be those who are confident in both verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to interweave the organizational values throughout the role. The role involves managing social media platforms, developing communication materials such as posters and videos, redesigning website content, creating monthly newsletters, supporting fundraising efforts and providing cross-cultural communicating with internal and external channels. Develop both written and verbal communication skills through providing support towards organization in line with our vision and mission, empowering ethnic women and children in situations of domestic violence. 

Key Responsibilities:

Social Media Management:

• Oversee the organization’s social media platforms, developing engaging content in line with Shakti’s social media policies and ensure regular updates to promote organizational initiatives and values.

Project Support:

• Assist Shakti with project-related communication needs.
• Develop posters, short videos, and other communication tools to convey organizational messages to the wider public.

Newsletter Development:

• Develop and manage monthly newsletters in collaboration with other regional branches to keep stakeholders informed about organizational activities and achievements. 

Fundraising and Marketing Support:

• Collaborate and support the funding officer with fundraising activities through effective marketing and communication strategies. 

Cross-Cultural Communication Strategy:

• Develop a cross cultural communication strategy to improve organizational communication nationwide. 
• Work closely with the head office team to devise and implement the strategy effectively. 

External Communications:

• Enhance external communication by establishing and maintaining relationships with the network agencies and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate communication efforts to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives. 

Qualifications:

• A passion for the mission, vision and purpose of Shakti Woman’s Refuge Trust.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field. 
• Proven experience in communication roles.
• Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in social media management tools and platforms. 
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to incorporate organizational values, working collaboratively with diverse teams.
• Bilingual language skills is desired. 
• Experience in fundraising and marketing would be an advantage but is not needed.
