Community Youth Worker

Crossroads Youth with a Future is a community based Christian charitable trust operating in Eastern Christchurch. We engage with 'at risk' young people and their whānau through delivering the Stay Real programme to youth in local schools and taking them out on outdoor activities.  We also hold a weekly evening Drop-In Centre from our premises in the heart of Aranui.

We are looking for an experienced part-time Youth Worker to join our small team working 20 to 30 hours per week.  We are looking for someone who is 

1. non-judgemental
2. has lots of initiative
3. is energetic and fit – your interaction with the young people will involve outdoor activities (e.g. bike riding, walking, high ropes); visiting recreational facilities (e.g. Willowbank, Antarctic Centre, public swimming pools); three to four “camps” per year (involving going out of Christchurch for three to six days); plus day trips to such places as Castle Hill, Akaroa, Ashburton
4. has a sense of humour
5. is a team player

They would need to be passionate about working with ‘at risk’ young people to help them realise their full potential. A full driver’s licence is essential along with reasonable administrative and computer skills.

The successful individual will have experience delivering youth programmes that inspire and encourage youth to make positive life choices and enable them to reach their potential. They will have excellent relationship building skills where they can connect and relate to youth, their whānau, and will also be able to partner and connect with stakeholders in the community.
