Epilepsy New Zealand

Epilepsy New Zealand is a registered national charity working to ensure that people living with epilepsy achieve independence through knowledge and awareness of their condition. 

Our trained educators also work to build awareness of epilepsy in the wider community.  Our theory of change is simple; if people understand epilepsy then the quality of life for people living with epilepsy will improve. 

About the Role

The organisation is looking to add to our team of trained epilepsy educators across New Zealand. You may have a health or social work background. Maybe you have experience working with high needs children or you're an educator with another NGO. All we ask is that you bring your passion and energy for making a difference in people's lives and we will teach you all you need to know about epilepsy.  Through a combination of in-person and virtual service responses the organisation seeks to increase and improve the reach of Epilepsy New Zealand across New Zealand.

We are currently hiring for a part-time position in Auckland - North & West.  Hours are flexible and if you are the right candidate, we will work in with you.

Purpose

  • To provide information, support and advocacy for people with epilepsy and their families/whanau from a holistic, community based empowerment model of service provision.
  • To promote a better understanding of epilepsy in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist people with epilepsy and their families/whanau and carers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with referrers in the education, welfare and health sectors
  • Build and maintain relationships with community and support groups in the region.
  • Planning and organising epilepsy awareness-raising events
  • Maintaining timely, relevant and accurate records of your activity.

Education, Skill and Experience:

The successful candidate will have at least 5-10 years work experience in the health-care sector.  Higher education in the health sector is preferred.

  • Empathetic and understanding toward person with epilepsy’s needs.
  • Applicants will need to demonstrate abilities in, both written and oral communication and public speaking.
  • The candidate should have a good knowledge of Microsoft 365 and a client management system. Experience with our client management system, ‘Noted’ an advantage but not a prerequisite.
  • Commitment to the principles of partnership with Maori and working to address health inequities is essential.
  • As you will be working from home, great planning and time management.
  • Honest, with a high degree of integrity and personal and professional ethics.
  • Candidates must be well presented with a current and clean full drivers license as the role requires travel.

Selected candidates will be required to have satisfactory results of police vetting under the Vulnerable Children’s Act.
