Mō tatou | About us:

Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, on the edge of Rotorua. We are home to the world famous Pōhutu geyser, mud pools, hot springs and silica formations. You will also find the native Kiwi bird and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone and bone carving. We have shared these taonga (treasures) with manuhiri (visitors) for over 170 years and proudly continue that tradition today.

We are an iwi-owned business that operates under the NZ Māori Arts and Crafts Vesting Act 2020 and for generations, we have welcomed manuhiri (visitors) from all over the world to explore the magic hidden within Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley during both the day and evening.

Mō te tūnga | About the role:

We’re looking for a part-time Kiwi Conservation Officer to join our small team of Kiwi specialists! 

Reporting to the Kiwi Conservation Centre Manager, you will assist in the smooth and efficient daily operations of our award-winning nocturnal facility, providing outstanding care to our taonga species, as well as our manuhiri (visitors).

This part-time role may be suited to someone who is either retired or semi-retired and has a genuine interest in conservation projects and a willingness to learn about captive species management. No prior experience is necessary. Full training will be provided. As an accredited member of the Zoo/Aquarium Association, Australasia, we adhere to the highest animal welfare standards.
