Learning Assistant / Teacher Aide - Urgent - Part-Time

Want to work in a dedicated and enthusiastic team supporting the learning needs for students with disabilities?  

We are currently looking for suitable persons to fill Fixed term and Relieving positions  at our Special School in South Auckland.  Some of these positions may soon become permanent, and incumbent relievers will be considered for these.   

Our Base school is in Otahuhu and we have satellite classes in the Otara / Flatbush / Ormiston areas.  Positions are available in some of our satellite classes as well as at Base although applicants may be moved to another class if required to meet the needs of our students. Relieving positions could require staff to work at the Base school and / or satellite classes.  Students are aged between 5 to 21 years and have a variety of disabilities - intellectual, physical, medical, sensory, behavioural.  Applicants must be willing to work with a range of students including some with complex physical / health needs.

Hours of work are currently 27.5 hours / week, Monday to Friday (term time only) but may vary depending on the position.  Applicants must be available to work either 8.30am to 2.30pm or  9.00am to 3.00pm to support students throughout the school day.  Attendance at a fortnightly team meeting until 3.30pm is also required for permanent employees. 

Positions will be paid as per the Support Staff in Schools Collective Contract. 

Applicants will be required to work as part of a classroom team assisting the teacher with student learning.  Previous experience working with students with disabilities or in a related field is preferred.  A sense of humour and a good command of spoken and written English is essential.  A full current Drivers Licence will be an advantage.  All applicants will be required to complete a Police Vetting application. Positions will commence as soon as possible pending the return of cleared Vetting results.
