The Rural Health Unit, part of the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, supports and encourages undergraduate students to understand health disparities in rural communities. As part of our team, you'll teach in various School of Population Health programmes focused on Rural Health.

Job Description



Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Rural Health Unit seeks an experienced and passionate individual to join our team as an Lecturer/Senior Lecturer on a part time basis. The successful candidate will help lead rural curriculum development in particular curriculum in rural general practice and the rural medical immersion programmes. They will deliver rural clinical teaching, and ensure culturally safe education for diverse populations. Responsibilities include supervising students, conducting research, and contributing to the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences' rural strategy with a focus on equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.

This is a 0.4 FTE, part time (16 hours per week ), fixed term role (12 months) . The salary range for this role is between $116,108 - $120,752 pro rata (Full time equivalent of 40 hours per week), based on skills and experience. For more detailed information, please refer to the  Position Description .

Qualifications

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a registered general practitioner with a keen interest in health and wellbeing education and primary health care research. You should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated, industrious, and demonstrate initiative.

Successful candidates will satisfy the following essential requirements:

  • Hold an MBChB or equivalent degree and be currently practicing
  • Have a keen interest in health and wellbeing education and primary health care research
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be self-motivated, industrious, and have initiative

Preferred candidates will also hold or be in the process of obtaining a Fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and/or Fellowship of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine. Additionally, they will have teaching experience at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as a background in research.
