Job Description - Legal Literacy Kaimahi (Fixed term to September 2026)

About the Role



Part-time – 20 hours per week
Ōtautahi | Christchurch



Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust is seeking a passionate and motivated Legal Literacy Kaimahi to support whānau navigating the Family Court and Oranga Tamariki legal processes. This is a fixed-term position through to 6 September 2026.



About the Role


This role provides practical and culturally responsive support to whānau Māori who are engaging with the legal system. You will assist whānau to understand legal processes, access appropriate advice, and build capability to make informed decisions that support their wellbeing and aspirations.



You Will Bring:



  • Knowledge of the legal systems in Aotearoa, particularly in relation to Oranga Tamariki and the Family Court.

  • Experience working with Māori whānau within a kaupapa Māori environment.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and an ability to work alongside whānau with empathy and respect.

  • An understanding of relevant legislation, including the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and related Acts.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies, and community networks.

  • Competence in Microsoft Office and client management systems.
