Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity



Vine – Violence Information Aotearoa – is the national centre for family and sexual violence research and information, based within the Public Policy Institute in the Faculty of Arts and Education.



We are looking for a Māori Research Lead to drive te ao Māori knowledge translation and mobilisation across Vine’s programme of work. In this role you will help ensure mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori research is visible, accessible and influential – supporting better responses to violence and improved outcomes for whānau Māori.



Working at the interface of research, policy and practice, you will build strong relationships with Māori researchers, practitioners, communities, hapori and other sector partners, while contributing to evidence briefs, reports, webinars and other resources.



This is a part-time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hours per week), fixed-term role for 12 months.

The salary range is $87,000 – $107,500 (pro rata for part time hours).



While the team is primarily based in Auckland, we welcome applications from elsewhere in Aotearoa. Flexible and remote working can be supported, with some travel to Auckland and Wellington required.



This position may be well suited to an early career researcher wanting to grow their impact. The part-time arrangement makes it ideal for someone maintaining other research or sector commitments.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will have a strong grounding in kaupapa Māori research and an understanding of the family and/or sexual violence environment. You’re confident working with diverse audiences and translating evidence into forms that are practical, relevant and mana-enhancing.



Our preferred candidate will have a relevant postgraduate degree and will bring:

  • Knowledge of mātauranga and tikanga Māori, including kaupapa Māori knowledge mobilisation
  • Experience in family and/or sexual violence research, policy or practice
  • Established relationships with hapori Māori, researchers or sector stakeholders
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas clearly across different groups
  • Experience contributing to written, digital or face-to-face knowledge sharing
