Overview of this position
Seeking a Materials and Processing Technician to support our Design Technology and Construction Trades departments at Newlands College. The successful candidate would be responsible for supporting the Head of Faculty with ordering and maintaining supplies, management of the storage of materials and preparing timber for classroom projects. They would also have responsibility for ensuring all tools and machines are in excellent working condition. This role is crucial in providing a safe and efficient learning environment.
Key Responsibilities include:
Supply Management
- Order and inventory supplies, materials and equipment as needed
- Maintain organised and accessible storage areas for all workshop materials and tools
- Track usage of supplies and liaise with the Head of Faculty regarding timely procurement of required materials.
Timber Preparation
- Liaise with staff and meet the timber needs of teachers for various classroom projects. This will require the necessary skills to use the faculty’s thicknesser, planer and the table saw following school best practice.
- Cut and prepare timber supplies in accordance with specific project requirements.
- Ensure materials are stored safely and appropriately.
Tool and Machine Maintenance
- Regularly inspect, maintain and repair workshop tools and machinery.
- Conduct routine maintenance and safety checks to ensure all equipment is in optimal working order.
- Keep records of maintenance schedules and repairs performed.
- Assist with training staff on the proper use and safety procedures for workshop tools and machinery where applicable.
- Ensure the workshops complies with the necessary health and safety regulations and liaise with the Head of Faculty should any faults be identified.
