Job Description - Medical Officer - Part-Time

The company

Healix is a leading international medical assistance organisation.  We have a large and varied global client base which includes travel insurers, charities, multinational corporations and governments.

Our medical team is divided between our office in New Zealand and our headquarters in the UK.

The role

Due to growth within our business, we are currently recruiting for a part-time doctor (Mon-Fri, 20 hrs per week) to join our team based on the North Shore of Auckland.

Your role, as part of our global medical team, will include:

  • Working closely with our team of Registered Nurses and Assistance Co-ordinators to prioritise and manage cases of patients (our clients) needing medical care all over the world, taking into consideration their medical needs together with local medical infrastructure, and cost of medical care
  • Communicating directly with overseas treating doctors to assist in the formulation of detailed medical advice, including decision-making on potential medical evacuations and repatriations
  • Providing general medical advice and recommendations to our clients around the world
  • Providing advice on pre-travel medical screenings

 

Senior medical supervision is available at all times.  The successful candidate will need to be available to spend an initial two week training period in our UK office.

 

Attributes required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Reasoned decision-making
  • Excellent clinical knowledge
  • At least five years post-qualification clinical experience
  • An understanding of the rigours of international travel and the challenges of dealing with varying medical infrastructures
  • The ability to follow standard operating procedures and be fluent in using a broad mix of technology and systems 
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, with experience of working successfully within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand

 

Working in international medical assistance is exciting and varied; this role will appeal particularly to those interested in learning more about how medicine is practiced around the world.

 

Remuneration and financial benefits

Please note that the annual salary quoted for this role is based on a full-time position.  Working part time, your annual remuneration will be pro-rata based on the agreed hours of employment.
