Job Description - Pastoral Supervisor - School Term Time

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School is a leading, innovative educational environment for young women from Year 7 to Year 13. We are proud of our strong boarding community and our commitment to supporting student wellbeing in a safe, nurturing and structured environment.



We are seeking a compassionate and organised Pastoral Supervisor to join our boarding team.


Term time only:



  • Wednesday’s 5.30pm-10pm

  • Saturday’s 8am-4pm 

  • Sunday’s 8am-3.30pm


This role provides evening pastoral care to approximately 130 girls in Years 9 to 13, ensuring they feel supported, heard, and cared for. If you have a warm presence and a calm, reliable approach, you’ll thrive in this highly rewarding position.



About the Role


As a Pastoral Supervisor, you will play an essential part in the wellbeing of our boarders. You will help create a homely and supportive environment where students feel safe and respected. Working closely with our boarding team, you will respond to wellbeing needs with sensitivity, maintain strong communication, and assist in upholding the routines and expectations that support a positive boarding culture.


This is a people-focused, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will be supporting them through daily challenges, celebrating their successes, and helping ensure their boarding experience is positive and enriching.



Key Responsibilities



  • Provide daily pastoral care and wellbeing support for boarding students

  • Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment within the boarding house

  • Respond calmly and appropriately to student concerns or behavioural issues

  • Communicate clearly and regularly with the boarding team regarding student needs

  • Support evening routines, activities and general supervision of boarders

Student Welfare


Objective



  • Ensure students are safe physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally at all times.

  • Report any irregularities of student behaviour, attitude via the daily dairy and/or to the Boarding Managers if serious, harmful or dangerous in nature.

  • Record student whereabouts at all times via onBoard roll call. Report any on-going issues or irregularities to the Director of Boarding or Boarding Managers.

  • Record all distribution of medication on onBoard system.

  • Implement and promote Character system promoting positive psychology student engagement and management including daily data entry into onBoard.


 


Outcome



  • Students are safe; reporting of concerns is communicated to a member of the Boarding Manager’s as soon as practicable. Active supervision includes movement about the boarding house, monitoring and supporting staff where required. Student's concerns are met with empathy, care and concern, appropriate support and actions are taken to ensure students are safe at all times.

  • Students are safe, reporting of concerns is communicated to appropriate staff members as soon as practicable.

  • Students are accounted for at all times throughout the day. Emotional and physical presence is noted, observed and reported on.

  • To ensure safe, secure processes are adhered to with regard to student Health and Safety with regard to medical and dental issues.

  • Staff promote and reinforce positive expectations, give praise and recognise and adapt practise to reflect individual student needs.


 


Professional Standards


Objective



  • Act at all times as a suitable role model for students

  • Keep up to date on policy and procedure change, and ensure these policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

  • Uphold the special character of the school

  • Complete Performance Planning and Review

  • Ensure student car keys are locked away during school hours


 


Outcome



  • Students are provided with a positive role model who encapsulates the values of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.

  • Individual knowledge of policy and procedure relating to all aspects of the Boarding House Operations is maintained. Where relevant, all policy and procedure in relation to the Day Based Operations is adhered to, or an appropriate action plan is developed in conjunction with the Director of Boarding in order to address concerns.

  • The Presbyterian Character of the School and Boarding House is promoted through role modelling of values, guidance and support.

  • Personal and professional development is promoted and reviewed in conjunction with the Director of Boarding. Outcomes are mutually agreed, and a subsequent action plan is implemented to meet such outcomes.

  • Only students with authorised usage have access to their keys during school hours.


 


Health and Safety


Objective



  • Maintain a clean, tidy office environment

  • Report any health and safety issues or concerns, including non-functioning equipment, security breaches and hazards

  • Promote emergency procedures

  • Oversee doctors' room and medical supplies


 


Outcome



  • The office is presentable at all times to guests and a visitor, a positive first impression is created.

  • The boarding house is safe; a proactive approach is taken to ensure the safety of boarders, and the physical environment.

  • Students are made aware of emergency procedures; regular drills are completed, including earthquake and fire.

  • Keep doctors' room up to date, ordering medical supplies and keep supplies well stocked.


 


Office Management


Objective



  • Disbursements are managed and up kept

  • Student records and correspondence

  • Attend to phone calls, email

  • Attend to visitors


 


Outcome



  • Students receive disbursement monies when required, appropriate records, invoicing and reconciling is maintained. Unusual requests are communicated to the Boarding Manager and/or parents for clarification.

  • Appropriate record keeping is maintained with regard to student welfare, and finance, and any parent correspondence

  • Messages via the phone, or mail are forwarded in a timely manner

  • Visitors, including parents and other stakeholders are greeted with their immediate needs being met where possible.
