The Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) | Kāhui Whakamana Tauwhiro has a fantastic opportunity for a Professional Advisor - Social Work to join our team in Wellington. This is a part-time 12-month, fixed-term role reporting directly to the Lead Professional Advisor - Social Work. This role could be based anywhere in New Zealand with occasional travel to Wellington. 

To be successful in this role you will need to have significant experience of social work. You will be required to support the regulatory functions of the Board, have strong analytical abilities, good communication and engagement skills, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

You will be an integral part of a small close-knit team and organisation. We are looking for a motivated individual who can build effective, values-based relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve the requirements of the role.

 

It would be a great option for someone who is looking for work-life balance alongside satisfying work and career development. This is some of the work you might be involved in:

  • provide expert advice on how to engage with social workers over issues related to the regulation of social work practice, in particular Section 13 Experience Pathway applications
  • provide advice to the SWRB regarding social work perspectives, promoting a focus on outcome and purpose, and generally enhancing the effectiveness of the Board 
  • support SWRB engagement with tangata whenua, Pacific peoples and diverse communities on issues of regulation and regulatory compliance
  • provide professional social work advice on complaints and notifications, fit and proper cases, education and competency assessments
  • actively engage and inform the social work sector on matters relating to compliance and regulatory policies for social workers   
  • participate in the distribution of information to ensure social workers are informed about compliance and regulatory requirements
  • provide social work advice in the execution of their duties in respect of social worker registration, education, and investigating complaints and compliance breaches. 

 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience   

  • be a New Zealand registered Social Worker
  • significant experience of social work practice
  • a strong understanding of mātauranga Māori, kaupapa Māori, te reo me ona tikanga 
  • well-developed computer literacy and report writing ability
  • keen ability to pro-actively build and maintain effective working relationships  
  • good judgement when prioritizing work, thinking ahead and managing time effectively.

The Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) | Kāhui Whakamana Tauwhiro is a Crown Entity which is Aotearoa’s social worker regulator and lead agency for social worker workforce planning.

 

It protects the safety of members of the public by ensuring social workers are competent and safe to practise and are accountable for the way in which they practise. It also enhances social workers’ professional practice and provides insight into the opportunities and challenges facing the social worker workforce.
