Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Professional Teaching Fellow in Theatre Skills to join our Theatre programme. In this role, you will teach one undergraduate performance skills course each year and contribute your expertise in other ways, such as guest teaching, supervising practical postgraduate projects, or assisting with direction of a student production.

You will play a key role in supporting students to develop the practical skills and confidence they need to thrive as emerging practitioners. This includes delivering high-quality, practice-based teaching and working collaboratively with colleagues to enrich the Theatre programme.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strengths in areas such as directing, physical theatre and movement, or vocal work. For details of other areas of expertise we value, please refer to the position description linked below. 

This is a part-time (8 hours per week / 0.2 FTE), fixed-term position. The contract will be for three years, starting Semester One 2026. 

The remuneration range for this role is between $103,717 - $114,636 (pro rata for part time hours), depending on the level of appointment.

You’ll bring a strong commitment to teaching and supporting the next generation of theatre practitioners. Alongside this, you will have:

• A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience (preferred)
• Extensive professional practice in theatre or performance
• Experience teaching at the tertiary level, ideally including performance skills courses
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative and student-focused approach
