Remote Support Lead

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of NZ works to provide a comprehensive portfolio of support services accessible to all men diagnosed with prostate or testicular cancer, their partners and their whānau anywhere in NZ. A key member of the Support & Education Team, the Remote Support Lead will work to develop and deliver the services that that the charity delivers remotely (as opposed to in person) to patients, families and others via online and other means. 

This is a 20 hour a week role and is based at our office in Albany, Auckland. Days worked can be flexible for the right person.

Some at-home working at times is possible with this role when necessary and with prior written agreement. Some ‘out of hours’ meetings and overnight travel may be necessary.

The broad goals for this role are to:

• Continue to expand and strengthen the role of the existing remote support offering 
• Provide professional information and practical support to men and their families affected by prostate and testicular cancer

Specifically, this will involve direct responsibility for our prostate and testicular Information Service to men through our 0800, online and email enquiry channels, the coordination of our email-based Prostate Cancer – Patient Empowerment Programme (including recruiting and inducting men onto the programme and liaising with our Canadian partners), the oversight of our Counselling Service (provided through our delivery partner, Raise Mental Health) and our Online Forum, as well as developing and managing a programme of Virtual Support via online means and administering our Welfare Grant service.

Skills and qualities that are essential for this role are:

• Healthcare professional or experience in a health related role
• Experience and knowledge of cancer treatment provision in Aotearoa New Zealand and survivorship support
• Highly developed empathetic communication skills, both written and verbal, able to convey information about complex health, diagnostic, treatment, survivorship and related issues to people from diverse cultural backgrounds and with a wide range of health literacy levels and comprehension. 
• Knowledge of, interest in and desire to learn about and incorporate the Māori worldview in the charity’s activities
• Excellent IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, CRM, internet-based systems and comms)
• Experience of establishing online and offline processes to successfully administer, report on and document initiatives and projects
• Ability to produce progress and monitoring reports to management
• Confident and experienced user of conferencing tools such as Teams, Zoom etc. 
• Excellent English speaking and writing skills.

Skills and qualities that are desirable for this role include:

• Urology clinic experience or urological training, including clinical trials
• Counselling or social work qualifications and/or experience
• Experience with older persons
