Fixed term to 30 January 2026.

Position Purpose:

Proactively working with the Suicide Prevention Postvention Advisor, the primary purpose of this role is to support the Southern Region to have a targeted focus on suicide prevention and postvention through:

• Supporting the implementation of any local Southern Suicide Prevention Action Plan as part of the wider New Zealand Suicide Prevention Strategy 2019-2029, He Tapu te Oranga o ia Tangata. 


• Co-ordinating and facilitating a range of suicide prevention activities designed to reduce the rate of suicides and attempted suicides in the Southern district in conjunction with the Suicide Prevention Postvention Advisor. 


• Co-ordinating the regions suicide postvention response and activity in conjunction with other key agencies.


• Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across the district. 


• Leading the implementation of local suicide prevention action plans.

What are we looking for:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced professional who is dedicated to suicide prevention and postvention efforts. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, a strategic thinker, and an advocate for mental health and wellbeing. You will be skilled at building relationships with key stakeholders, coordinating multi-agency responses, and implementing targeted strategies to reduce suicide rates in the Southern region.

About you - To be successful in this role you will:

• Hold a relevant tertiary degree in health, allied health or social services, accompanied by relevant experience


• Have a full Drivers Licence, as travel in the region is required, often at short notice.


• Have had 4-5 years’ experience in the health and/or social services sector.


• Have awareness and understanding of the implications of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi to WellSouth as a public health organisation.


• Have proven experience and knowledge regarding suicide determinants, as well as prevention, intervention and postvention strategies.
