Eastland Port is 100% owned by, and makes a significant annual contribution and shareholder return to Trust Tairāwhiti, Gisborne’s regional community trust. Trust Tairāwhiti has a strategic focus on economic development, community initiatives and investments that provide for future generations across the region. Eastland Port is a crucial regional asset in their portfolio, alongside Gisborne Airport Limited (GAL) The role is a joint directorship role for Eastland Port Limited and Gisborne Airport Limited.
We are seeking expressions of interest and applications for two new independent directors on behalf of Trust Tairāwhiti. You will be joining a team of two existing experienced and highly regarded independent directors to make up a board of four who will ensure ongoing and thorough governance oversight and assurance of Eastland Ports and GAL’s rigour and risk management, executive engagement, commercial performance, and shareholder return.
Located right in the heart of Gisborne city, Eastland Port, and the inner harbour and marina precinct is a key regional infrastructure for Tairāwhiti’s economy. This port is one of New Zealand’s largest log exporters and the most easterly commercial shipping port in New Zealand. In addition to logs, their primary exports also include produce from a growing horticulture sector. The port also has a strong focus on growing its expanding cruise ship visits as well as enabling containerisation. The team are in the midst of looking to diversify their products and future proof their infrastructure with a range of significant projects and commercial investments.
Gisborne Airport is a strategically important regional asset, accommodating over 200,000 passenger movements per year, with services to all of the north island’s main centres, via Air New Zealand and various smaller regional airlines.
You will need to be able to demonstrate a track record of professional commercial governance experience as well as sound financial, leadership and strategic expertise, and ideally an understanding of community ownership models. Experience in ports, or infrastructure, and strong connections and expertise in supply chain and logistics based commercial models will be highly advantageous, as will a connection and commitment to the Gisborne / Tairāwhiti region.
Proximity and or availability to be in Gisborne to attend board meetings and be actively involved in the strategic guidance of Eastland Port will be crucial.
