KO Ā MĀTOU MAHI - ABOUT OUR WORK

We are New Zealand’s leading sexual and reproductive health organisation. We believe people should have access to equitable quality services and information so they can make informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health. Our work is guided by our strategic vision, whakamanahia – equity, access and choice.

MŌ TĒNEI TŪRANGA MAHI - ABOUT THE ROLE

We have a fantastic opportunity for two highly motivated Youth Members to join the governance Council of Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa in a volunteer capacity. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a governance role as part of a high performing and collaborative board in a national organisation.

Council members are responsible for the governance and performance of the organisation in accordance with the vision, mission, values, philosophies and strategic goals of Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa.   They are expected to engage in a constructive way to set and monitor the aims, direction and advocacy policies of the organisation while ensuring financial affairs are sustainably managed.

We would love to consider you for the role if you have the following:

  • Passionate about Sexual Wellbeing and health and motivated by the opportunity to ensure equitable access to expert information, advice, and care.
  • A strong and confident communicator willing to contribute to the governance and performance of the organisation.
  • Able to critically engage with proposals and make decisions in line with Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa’s mission and values.
  • Knowledge of working within the paradigms of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, and tikanga Māori.
  • A strategic thinker with sound professional judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Attention to detail and confident in reading detailed documents in preparation for council meetings.
  • Willing to use your skills to make a significant contribution to health equity and help continue our organisation’s proud history of being a courageous advocate for sexual and reproductive health rights in Aotearoa.

The ideal candidates will be…

  • Aged between 19 – 23 years old.
  • Available for at least one term of three years.
  • Able to travel nationally for board meetings which are held on a Friday or Saturday.

We are open to all applicants who meet the above criteria; however previous successful youth members have had special interests in Health Science, Medicine or Nursing, Marketing or Social Media, Finance, and improving health outcomes for Māori and Pacifica.

Please note that this role is a volunteer opportunity. Travel expenses will be covered by Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa along with Koru Club membership.
