Gain experience working alongside a vibrant, young team of peers. SMASH provides care before school (breakfast club 7.15am - 9am) and after school (2.30-6pm) during Term Time. There is also a thriving School Holiday Programmes (shifts throughout the 7.30am - 6pm day) which draws in children from all over Wellington. Our business also offers flexible hours and opportunities for promotion for the right people. Our environment focuses on every child, staff member and family - each are supported in reaching their full potential; spiritually, physically, socially and emotionally. Your tasks and duties will include, but are not limited to: 1. leading activities and supervising children as required e.g. sport games, craft, baking, challenges, etc.
2. being proactive and engaged at all time
3. being responsive and vigilant at all time
4. keeping facilities clean and tidy
5. dealing with conflict effectively and apply behaviour management strategies
6. applying authority and assertiveness fairly
7. being a role model and motivator of the children
8. informing the Manager when amenities and stocks are low
9. assisting with risk analysis management for programme delivery
10. assisting with the security of facilities and equipment maintenance
11. understanding individual children’s needs and ensuring those needs are met, wherever possible
12. developing and maintaining positive relationships with the caregivers, including taking action to resolve any queries or concerns
13. having fun and being an active member of our team Skills and experience (preferred): 1. Current first aid certificate - we provide 1st aid courses as active part of our training.
2. Experience, affinity and passion to work with children
3. Experience working in an educational or childcare environment would be beneficial but not essential
4. Ability to handle stressful situations
5. Multitasking and prioritizing
6. Good interpersonal skills
7. Strong common sense and problem solving
8. Ability to communicate in a warm and responsive manner
9. High degree of initiative, forward-thinking and decision making
