The Role  Purpose of the role 

General Operations is the backbone of our business – the team that gets things done and enables everyone in the organization to get things done too. As the Hands-on General Operations Manager, you'll lead the General Operations team displaying strong but collaborative leadership, making sure processes are as good as they can be, and ensuring compliance with industry standards across Laminar; enabling a more productive, and efficient running of the business. You'll implement new systems, streamline processes, and lead internal initiatives to drive forward continuous improvement. Your role is pivotal in optimizing our Operations, driving our business forward, and empowering us to do things in a better and more data driven way. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the General Operations team, providing oversight to the different areas, such as compliance, business improvement and general administration.  Team 

The General Operations team is vital to our organization, managing critical areas such as compliance, IT, administration, and strategic initiatives. We collaborate closely with teams across the business services such as People Operations, Talent Acquisition, and Finance to ensure all things Operations, go as smoothly as possible.  

Although you will be expected to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the General Operations function, you will have the close support of a senior line manager who will provide oversight and guidance, working collaboratively with you to achieve our organization's goals effectively.  Your top 3 objectives 

  1. To ensure all our processes are as good as they can be and ensure compliance. 
  2. Drive forward business improvement initiatives. 
  3. Provide leadership and direction to develop yourself and everyone around you. 


Your top 5 responsibilities 

As the General Operations Manager at Laminar Projects, you'll bring comprehensive knowledge of how systems works and how information circulates around a company, ensuring we have the right processes and systems across the business. 

  1. Internal Initiatives: Head and drive internal improvement initiatives that focus on operational excellence and regulatory compliance, collaborating with different teams within the organization. 
  2. Process Improvement: Identify operational inefficiencies and champion a culture of relentless pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement. 
  3. Performance Measurement and Process Auditing : Develop and monitor operational metrics, conducting process audits as necessary to ensure efficiency and compliance. 
  4. Horizontal Learner and Implementor: Versatile learner adept at applying knowledge and skills across diverse disciplines, facilitating informed decision-making and effective initiative implementation. 
  5. Leadership and People Management: Lead, motivate, and develop a team, ensuring effective collaboration, managing and performance optimization. 


​​​​​​​ Your Capabilities 

You will be a proven operations all arounder who knows how to switch between being a project manager, compliance auditor, leader, communicator, researcher and doer – all with the goal of making things better. 

  • Must-Have (The fundamentals) 
    • Mastery :  
      • Operations background in small to medium-sized organisations where you have set things up from scratch or been heavily involved in the set up.  
      • A track record of leading the development of thoughtfully designed systems or processes and implementing them across a business.  
      • Proficiency in analysing data and identifying areas for improvement.  
      • Expertise in project management and problem-solving.  
      • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in a remote or start-up environment.  
      • An understanding of change management approaches. 
    • Communication :  
      • Precise and structured communicator both written and verbal in English.  
      • Strong presentation skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels. 
      • Proficiency in using communication and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office Suite. 
    • Leadership
      • An understanding of leadership styles and when to use them. 
      • A people-centric approach to leadership and development.  
      • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. 
    • Impact :  
      • A track record of making organisations better beyond just doing the basics.

  • Nice to Have (If you don’t have it now you will after joining) 
    • Mastery :  
      • Excellent Excel skills and a strong interest in data management.  
      • ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications knowledge and implementation experience.  
      • Professional certificates such as Certified Manager (CM), Certified Operations Manager (COM), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. 
      • Experience with process improvement methodologies and change management. 
    • Communication : Precise and structured communicator both written and verbal. 
    • Leadership : A proven leader/coach/developer of teams or teams of teams. 
    • Impact : A track record of implementing scalable and repeatable solutions in projects and organisations that had a significant positive impact.
