Staff Captain

Main Tasks & Activities:
1. Daily Management Responsibilities
* Deputy to Master and second in command, if the Master is incapacitated, will assume command;
* Head of Deck Department, tasked to:
- Monitor, Mentor and Coach Navigation Officers;
- Monitor, Mentor & Coach Safety Officer;
- Monitor and Coach Bosun & Deck Crew.
* Responsible to Master for safety, welfare, discipline and training of all staff in his department;
* Stability Officer – will make a positive report to the Master, prior to each and every departure and throughout every voyage, and confirm that the condition of the ship meets all the requirements of the stability booklet;
* Maintain Stability Booklet and NAPA calculations;
* Responsible for bridge management, bridge manning and operation. Maintains overview of the passage planning and be aware of future itinerary challenges;
* Conducts appraisals for the Deck department;
* Oversight of deck stores, parts and supplies and inventory checks, safety and security equipment as well as purchase requisitions and Deck CAPEX Budget;
* Ensures that crew disciplinarians are handled in accordance with CBA/SQM policy;
* Full overview of ballast operation the ballast management plan;
* Monitor T/A for deck department;
* Fully aware of damage control response, equipment and training procedures;
* Oversight of accident / incident reports regarding both passengers and crew and for the investigation of the accidents in cooperation with the Doctor, the Safety and the Security Officer(s). 2. Safety
* Be fully familiar with the ship’s “Emergency Plan”, the “Muster List”, and the “SQM”;
* Fully familiar with Company policy, instructions and procedures;
* Oversight of training conducted on board the vessel and its compliance with company policy;
* Chair OHSSE Meetings. 3. Security
* Designated Ship Security Officer;
* Monitor, mentor and coach Chief Security Officer;
* Be fully familiar with Ships Security Plan;
* Onboard liaison with Company Security Officer;
* Maintain and supervise all security procedures, training, drills, exercises and personnel assigned security duties on board under the overall authority of the Master;
* Liaise with PFSO where necessary;
* Responsible for ship’s bomb search plan and all aspects of the ship’s security in co-operation with the Security Officer(s). 4. Maintenance
* Planning and coordination of exterior maintenance and repairs;
* Reporting on regular basis maintenance and purchasing routines into Amos-Win according to specified responsibilities within the Planned Maintenance System;
* Responsibility and Oversight for all Safety Equipment, LSA, FFA in the Planned Maintenance program (AMOS);
* Responsible for the maintenance of fresh water tanks, dry tanks and ballast tanks;
* Ensure Deck dry dock spec is maintained up to date. 5. Other
* Assist with bridge duties as required by the Captain;
* Responsible for all training and drills for passenger and crew and in cooperation with the Safety Officer to ensure that all crewmembers are properly trained in all safety aspects;
* Be aware of Guest activities and frequently visit guest areas in the daily operation of the vessel;
* Host a guest table as appropriate;
* Attend guest welcome, farewell and other guest parties as time allows.
