The City of Chula Vista is seeking a highly motivated individualto plan, organize, direct and review the activities andoperations of the Engineering & Capital Projects Department;coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outsideagencies; and provide highly complex staff assistance to the CityManager’s Office. The major areas of responsibility are: – Plan,organize, direct and review the activities and operations of theEngineering & Capital Projects Department. – Develop, plan andimplement department goals and objectives. – Develop andadminister the department budget. – Oversee the department’shuman and financial resources including organizational and staffdevelopment. – Develop and implement the department work plan;assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow;review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures. Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have significantmanagement experience in public sector civil engineering andcapital improvement projects with outstanding technical knowledgeand excellent written and oral communication skills. Qualifiedcandidates, at minimum, will have the equivalent of seven (7)years of increasingly responsible experience in professionalcivil engineering involving design and construction of publicworks projects, including four years of administrative andmanagement responsibility, and training equivalent to aBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university withmajor course work in Civil Engineering or a related field.Municipal civil engineering experience is desirable. Possessionof a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issuedby the California State Board of Registration for ProfessionalEngineers is required.
