Job Description - Bookstore Associate

Synopsis of Role

A Bookstore Associate is responsible for performing a variety of duties relating to cash sales, credit card purchases, reordering, invoicing, stocking and pricing of merchandise in the bookstore.

Essential Functions

  • Provide customer service to students and staff by responding to either general or specific inquiries.
  • Handle sales activities with the use of Point-Of-Sale System (POS) for sales and returns, to process cash and credit/debit card transactions using prescribe card terminal.
  • Process requisition on re-ordering of bookstore merchandise and the likes.
  • Monitor and maintains inventory with complete tracking of sales to purchases.
  • Collaborates with marketing for product development.
  • Works together with purchasing on sourcing suppliers and acquiring new merchandise.
  • Provides promotional material of bookstore merchandise.
  • Provides assistance to inter-departments in terms of needed bookstore supplies and services.
  • Maintains neat, orderly, and inviting Bookstore ambiance.
  • Other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of any business course.
  • With at least 1-3 years of relevant experience

Work Environment and Physical Demands

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Bookstore Associate role. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions described above.

The role is subjected to typical office setting involving a suitable work environment and the following physical activities – sit at workstation (potentially for long hours), use of computer and other electronic devices, walk around the office premises and interact with various employees, sit in meetings internally and travel off site to external clients. The role will also require off-site work visiting partners and communities.

This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the Bookstore Associate position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position. 44 work hours per week (normally M-TH 8:30AM-6:30PM; F 8:30AM-5:30PM). Willing to extend hours when needed and can work under minimum supervision.
