Job Description:

This position is responsible in overseeing the monthly reconciliation functions which include the following activities:

  • preparation of the reconciliation packages to ensure full compliance with the Accounts Reconciliation Standard;
  • monitoring and resolution of reconciling items to ensure that the account balances are reasonably stated;
  • communication and coordination with the different business units to resolve outstanding reconciling items; and
  • identification of the control issues and areas for improvement within the reconciliation function

The main job purpose of this position can be attained through the following:

  • Understanding of the business of Sun Life Financial (SLF) entities and the full context of Accounts Reconciliation Standard to be applied in the review of the reconciliation process;
  • Creation of procedure guidelines in reconciling the different accounts of SLF entities and in performing other related activities as guide in the full cycle of the reconciliation process;
  • Closely monitoring of accounts with long outstanding reconciling items and initiating meetings with the business units to discuss and implement the necessary action items and timeliness for the resolution of the issues;
  • Proactive identification of potential risks and resolution of any accounting and control issues based on these risks;
  • Communication of useful and accurate financial information to the management;
  • Initiation of process improvement and collaboration with other business units in implementing Finance projects, as required; and
  • In conjunction with Finance management, identification of relevant and critical issues within the organization and participation in the investigation and creation of innovative resolutions of issues relative to reconciliation in order to implement process improvement.

Finance Metrics ( If relevant, describe type and amount (e.g. size of budget managed, revenue, etc.)

  • 99% accounts reconciled and 97% accounts reconciled and current (based on Accounts Reconciliation Standards)
  • Accurate and timely submission of required reports
  • No or minimal number of long outstanding reconciling items

Education Level and Professional Qualification

  • Minimum

University degree in Accountancy.

Preferably, a CPA.

Technical Skills

  • With basic understanding of the Accounts Reconciliation process
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP (Canadian, US, Philippines), local tax rules and regulations, and internal control requirements;
  • Good business sense on asset management practices
  • With experience and knowledge in several, if not all, general functions within Finance (Cash Management, Banking, Portfolio Management, Financial Reporting, and Financial Analysis, etc.)
  • Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools;

Leadership Skills

  • Must possess and exhibit edge, energy, high integrity, results orientation and solution-oriented skills;
  • Confident team player with strong interpersonal skills who can work across multiple functions to achieve goals;
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and can manage multiple projects at a time;
  • Able to present ideas effectively to ensure that requirements for approval are met; 
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
