The Project

Masungi Georeserve is a conservation area that safeguards a rich tapestry of biodiversity and geological wonders. The reserve is internationally acclaimed for its innovative approach to nature conservation, emphasizing habitat restoration, the importance of following environmental laws, community engagement, and sustainable tourism. The Masungi Geopark Project extends these efforts, aiming to protect and rejuvenate the broader landscape surrounding the reserve.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Landscaper to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for nature, a strong work ethic, and the desire to contribute to the conservation efforts of Masungi Georeserve. This role involves maintaining the landscape in a way that enhances the beauty of the natural surroundings while supporting the reserve's ecological balance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in plants, an eye for the aesthetics of a landscape, an ability to plan landscape maintenance schedules of a team, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of park rangers carrying out landscape maintenance activities.
• Implement and maintain landscaping designs that complement the natural beauty of Masungi Georeserve.
• Carry out a range of horticultural activities including planting, pruning, mulching, watering, and weeding to ensure the health and vitality of the plant life within the reserve.
• Collaborate with plant and conservation experts to select native plants and trees for landscaping projects that support local wildlife and ecosystem restoration efforts.
• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Monitor the health of the landscape, identifying signs of pest or disease and implementing appropriate management strategies.
• Assist in the creation of walking trails and other visitor amenities that minimize environmental impact.
• Participate in environmental education initiatives by sharing knowledge about local flora and sustainable landscaping practices with visitors.
• Work closely with the reforestation team to develop and implement erosion control measures and other ecological restoration projects.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in landscaping, gardening, or a similar role, with an understanding or interest in of ecological and sustainable gardening practices.
• Strong physical fitness and the ability to perform labor-intensive tasks in various weather conditions.
• Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Passion for nature conservation and a commitment to the mission and values of Masungi Georeserve.
• Diploma or certification in Horticulture, Landscape Design, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to identify a wide range of plant species, particularly those native to the Philippines, is highly desirable.
• Experience working with minimal environmental impact in protected or conservation areas is an asset.
