Take-Off Specialist

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Take-off Specialist to join one of New Zealand’s leading brick, stone, paver and landscaping suppliers.


In this role, you will be tasked with accurately estimating the quantities of materials required for a project based on architectural and/or engineering plans. Working closely with clients and internal departments to get the precise and detailed take-offs, quantification, and procurement processes.


To excel in this position, you must possess a solid background in take-off experience, the ability to read engineering drawings and interpret data, a knack for understanding contractual requirements, strong interpersonal communication skills, creative problem-solving abilities to automate processes and enhance efficiencies, keen attention to detail, and a quick grasp of new software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the scope of work and material requirements.
• Conduct detailed material take-offs to quantify and list all materials needed for a project plan including but not limited to, bricks, roof tiles, landscaping materials, concrete, steel, lumber, fixtures, fittings, and finishes.
• Collaborate with client and internal teams to clarify project requirements and ensure accurate material estimates.
• Utilize take-off software to calculate quantities of materials required for projects.
• Verify material quantities and specifications against project plans to identify any discrepancies or potential issues.
• Assist in evaluating and selecting materials based on cost-effectiveness, quality, and suitability for each project.
• Provide support during the bidding process by preparing material take-off summaries and assisting with cost estimates.
• Responsible for detailing and quantifying plans for landscaping, roofing and exteriors for commercial building/subdivision/multiple houses/apartments based on material or footage.
• Offer technical support to project teams as necessary.

Education and Work Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Take-off Specialist or similar role in the construction industry.
• Graduate of bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management
• Prior experience and proficiency in using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems and other Take-off Software is required.
• High proficiency in MS Office, with advanced knowledge in MS Excel, is a must.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
• Creative thinking to automate processes and increase efficiencies.
