Job Title: HIM Specialist
Job Purpose
The HIM Specialist is responsible for carrying out and implementing the quality review plan to ensure a high level of accuracy with the various job duties and actions of the HIM Support Services Division. The HIM Specialists will possess and maintain a high level of expertise in one or more of the areas to be reviewed. HIM Specialists will maintain expertise in one/multiple of the following areas:
- Medical Abstraction
- Release of Information
- Indexing/Redaction
- Payment Processing
Duties and Responsibilities
- Scans paper medical record documents into the appropriate patients’ electronic health record
- Indexes scanned documents and verifies the information scanned is placed in the correct patient record and correct encounter.
- Ensures appropriate importing of documents into the patient’s electronic health record.
- Files and retrieves hardcopy medical records as necessary.
- Acquiring and evaluating patient data
- Organizing digital and paper records that they receive from diagnostic labs, doctors, or patients filling out forms.
- Ensuring that patients’ medical records are accurate, complete, and timely.
- Managing and maintaining databases
- Ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive patient information by making sure that only those directly involved with a patient’s care are able to access the records.
- Tracking patient outcomes for quality assessments
- Designing, analyzing, and generating medical reports for physician and administrators
- Converting written documentation to electronic form for statistical and insurance billing purposes
- Recording electronic data for storage, retrieval, analysis, and reporting
Qualifications
- Minimum of six months experience with exceptional performance in chosen area of quality management
- Knowledge of general computer applications and ability to multitask on two monitors.
- Quality monitoring and coaching experience preferred.
- Extreme attention to detail required.
- Release of Information and Redaction – demonstrated HIPAA knowledge required
- Abstracting – requires clinical background, ICD 9/CPT Coding understanding, high level of medical terminology, familiarity with pharmacology and immunizations.
- Payment Processing – demonstrated knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting processes
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology, CPT Codes, Modifiers and Diagnosis Codes
- Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
- MS Office basic skills. Must have basic Excel skillset.
- Experience with practice management systems. Preferably EPIC PB, Centricity, Allscripts and/or Cerner
- Strong communication skills/oral and written.
- Strong organizational skills

- Sit, perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear
- The employee must be able to follow directions, get along with others and work in a fast paced work environment.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Php35,337.92 - Php75,333.27 per month
