Job Description Summary

The Risk and Resilience Lab, directed by Dr. Sara Jaffee is hiring a full-time research specialist to oversee administration of the PHLHousing+ Study in collaboration with colleagues in the School of Design. PHLHousing+ is a housing-focused guaranteed income experiment in Philadelphia that is following 1,200 low-income households over 2.5 years and is evaluating the impact of unconditional monthly cash payments compared to housing choice vouchers (and a waitlist control group) on housing, socioeconomic outcomes, parent and child well-being, children’s academic outcomes, and family relationships. The position will be in person with a start date in mid-April 2024, although some jobs can be done remotely.

Job Description

The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities, including working with Dr. Jaffee (co-PI), Dr. Vincent Reina (co-PI, School of Design), collaborators from the Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation (PHDC), and collaborators within the University of Pennsylvania. Research-related tasks will include the design and administration of multiple waves of surveys for PHLHousing+, assisting in the preparation of IRB applications and modifications, hiring, training, managing, and mentoring a team of research assistants with Dr. Jaffee, and assisting in the cleaning and coding of data. Administrative responsibilities will include working with PHDC to manage participant payments, submitting reimbursement requests, coordinating schedules of research assistants, maintaining the lab website, coordinating lab purchases with administrative staff, and organizing lab social events. Importantly, there will also be opportunities for scientific involvement in all aspects of research projects in the lab, including the opportunity to lead the writing of journal articles and conference presentations. Thus, this position is an excellent stepping stone for someone planning to go to graduate school in urban studies, clinical or developmental psychology, or related fields. Required Qualifications:

BA/BS in a social science discipline or recent experience conducting research in a social science discipline.

0-1 years of research experience (e.g., data collection, scheduling, participant recruitment and retention).

Proficiency with survey software (e.g., Qualtrics), including designing surveys and exporting data.

Experience submitting IRB applications (new submissions, modifications, continuing review).

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Comfortable interacting with individuals from a variety of demographic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Detail-oriented, motivated, creative, organized, and able to work independently.

Ability to work efficiently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

Flexible work availability (including evenings and weekends).

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis experience in a social science discipline.

Experience assisting with grant submissions and grant administration

Familiarity with the University of Pennsylvania’s HSERA and Concur systems.

Proficiency with Stata statistical software.

This position is contingent upon grant funding.
