What you'll do:
As the Chief Legal Counsel, you will play a crucial role in shaping the company's future by ensuring its adherence to regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for keeping abreast of regulatory developments within the insurance industry, evaluating potential risks, and devising strategies to mitigate these risks. Your expertise will be vital in reviewing and drafting contracts, policies, and other legal documents to safeguard the company's interests. You will also supervise all litigation matters, working with external counsel to represent the company's interests effectively. Your guidance on corporate governance matters will be invaluable in maintaining the company's integrity. Furthermore, your strategic advice will influence key business decisions. Lastly, your dedication to fostering a culture of compliance through education will contribute significantly to the organisation's success.

• Keep abreast of regulatory developments and ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations governing the insurance industry
• Evaluate legal risks associated with business operations and devise proactive strategies to mitigate such risks
• Review and draft contracts, policies, and other legal documents to protect the company's interests
• Supervise all litigation matters, including claims disputes, regulatory investigations, and other legal proceedings
• Offer guidance on corporate governance matters, including board governance, regulatory filings, and shareholder communications
• Counsel senior management on legal matters impacting business decisions and strategic initiatives
• Identify and evaluate legal risks associated with new products, business ventures, and strategic partnerships
• Provide training and guidance to employees on regulatory compliance, ethics, and risk management best practices

What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Chief Legal Counsel role will bring a wealth of legal expertise, coupled with strong leadership skills. You will have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to the state bar in good standing. Your experience practising law, preferably within the insurance industry or a related field, will be invaluable in this role. Your demonstrated ability to manage a legal team and oversee complex legal matters will be crucial to your success. A comprehensive understanding of insurance laws, regulations, and industry standards is essential. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are also required. The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities is key. Above all, your commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting a culture of compliance and integrity will set you apart.
