Job Description - Content Development Specialist

Job Summary:

As a Content Development Specialist, you are responsible for overseeing a specific area of the Content Development team. Your job includes writing web content for new Scorpion clients before the launch of their website; editing client-provided and freelanced content; communicating with our internal teams; organizing projects to ensure they meet deadlines; acting as a resource for our internal writers; and assisting the Director of Content Development in ensuring your area has the tools they need. You are expected to write and edit content that is unique, thoroughly researched, cohesively presented, and optimized for search by the latest SEO best practices.

As a Content Development Specialist, you are also a point of contact in your area of expertise for internal and external writers, as well as our internal development teams, and will provide the Director with any relevant information or changes in your respective area. 

Keys:

Innovation: Developing creative ways to assist the Content Development team, including leading training; scheduling projects; assisting writers, freelancers, and project managers; and answering questions on a specific area of expertise. In addition, developing research-based factual content and unique marketing points that are in line with the latest SEO practices and the client’s vision for their website.

Results: Ensuring everyone produces creative and unique copy that is the foundation on which the website’s organic performance is based.

Care: All content should be grammatically correct, factually accurate, and in line with our in-house standards to meet the client’s expectations and facilitate a smooth launch process.

Efficiency: The Content Development Specialist is expected to meet deadlines and have a high attention to detail in order to ensure a client’s website launches within the agreed upon timeline. They will also assist writers and other internal teams by efficiently answering questions, leading trainings, and assisting the Director.

Experience: The Content Development Specialist should be able to explain and utilize style, SEO, and grammar best practices to produce high quality web content for a variety of clients. They should have been working at Scorpion in a writing capacity for at least one year. 

  • Work closely with the Director of Content Development to be on the forefront of new developments both at Scorpion and with SEO best practices. You will be responsible for ensuring these new developments are pushed out to the team. 
  • Answer questions regarding your specific area of expertise. 
  • Ensure projects are on the schedule and a writer is assigned to ensure completion within deadlines. 
  • Responsible for reading and fully understanding information provided by the project management and SEO teams. This close attention to detail will help ensure a website’s content reflects a client’s business and is in line with SEO best practices. If there are questions, it is your responsibility to communicate with the Project Manager or SEO Analyst. If there are discrepancies, it is your responsibility to explain the best practices to freelancers, writers, and other internal teams. 
  • Research and write all new pages, per the page instructions, as well as edit current client content and freelancer-produced pages. All content should be unique, follow best practices, be error-free, and adhere to SEO best practices and our in-house style guide.
  • Upload the content onto the website and style as per our in-house best practices.

Accountabilities:

  • Work closely with the Director and internal and external writers to answer questions and schedule projects 
  • Act as a point of contact for your area of expertise
  • Lead trainings and ensure all writers have the latest information on Scorpion style and SEO best practices
  • Produce unique, factually accurate, grammatically correct, and stylistically polished content
  • Closely follow written instructions and create quality content that meets the specifications listed in the Content Request
  • Edit content for factual accuracy, grammatical accuracy, and in-house style standards
  • Keep up with the latest SEO best practices and seek out continual training and knowledge
  • Communicate with internal teammates and freelancers in-person and via email an in a timely manner
  • Adhere to project deadlines

Requirements

  • Must be able to use a computer and remain in a stationary position 95% of the day. 
  • Must have Fiber Optic internet with at least 25 Mbps bandwidth
  • Must have a backup desktop or laptop with the latest OS
  • Must be able to work from 1AM-10AM
