Job Description - Junior Lawyer (Legal & Compliance)

The Unit Head of Compliance Unit of the Legal and Compliance Department is responsible in ensuring the sound and effective management of compliance risks based on the relevant compliance regulations. The Compliance Unit Head is also tasked with ensuring that the Compliance Unit – staff and resources – are managed effectively.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Head of Compliance Unit:

  • Develops, initiates, maintains and periodically reviews and updates Compliance Program, Compliance-related Manuals, and Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Program (MLPP or the Anti-Money Laundering Manual) that support Company’s goals and strategies.
  • Promotes the implementation of Compliance Program, Compliance-related Manuals, and Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Program (MLPP or the Anti-Money Laundering Manual).
  • Acts as principal or focal contact person of regulators; liaises with various regulators on compliance/regulatory requirements or issues.
  • Serves as the person in charge in case of Regulatory audits/examinations/inquiry, etc. and facilitates discussions or negotiations.
  • Identifies relevant laws, rules, regulations and ethical standards on financing operations and disseminates the same to appropriate units/personnel for compliance.
  • In coordination with TMD, supervises the development and implementation of an effective compliance/AML training program, including introductory training for new employees as well as continuing training for all.
  • Ensures that Compliance personnel are well-rounded, fully trained, continually informed and competent compliance trainers/advisors.
  • Provides an active advisory service on compliance/regulatory/AML matters.
  • Promotes a culture of compliance in line with sound corporate governance practices by advancing compliance consciousness among officers and staff across all levels.
  • Maintains a compilation of laws, rules and regulation easily accessible to the employees.
  • Reviews and evaluates the performance of the Compliance Program and related activities on a continuing basis taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability risks, including exceptions per regulatory agencies’ reports of examination, coordinates and monitors the taking of corrective action for resolution and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situation in the future.
  • Performs compliance testing including checking the accuracy and integrity of documentary submissions to BSP, AMLC and other regulators.
  • Assist in other Unit/s under the Department
  • Support/assist the other Unit/s in the Department in carrying out their functions, as may be necessary.

Other tasks

  • Complete other legal-related duties as may be directed by the Board, the Division Head, and the Top Management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Member of the Philippines Bar
  • 1-2 years of experience in related field
