Associate Principal Engineer

Purpose of role

The Associate Principal Engineer role involves specification, design, test and review of the electronic circuits for new and pioneering consumer appliance products within Dysons Haircare category.

As a member of the RDD Global Hardware Haircare Electronics Team based in Philippines Advanced Manufacturing, you will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to define, architect, and deliver the electronics for Haircare products. You may also be working with Dysons Research in UK and New Product Innovation teams to investigate and develop novel electronics to support and realise new product ideas.

The role will require a highly motivated, creative, methodical, and flexible person, ready to take on challenges with a pragmatic approach. You will act as role model and provide guidance and mentoring to Graduates and Junior Engineers and provide technical direction across multiple projects in Haircare Category.

Accountabilities

• Keep abreast of new technologies, tools, and approaches to help continually improve the design, cost, and quality
• Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (Mechanical, Compliance, Software, Manufacturing, Test, etc) across the UK and Southeast Asia to ensure product and system requirements are satisfied, and drive product development through to production.
• Take a proactive approach in the design and improvement of robust solutions and resolutions of technical challenges across Haircare projects.
• Act as subject matter expert in hardware design and integration, disseminating knowledge, guiding and mentor engineers in methodology, best practice, and standards.
• Proactively identify technical risks within projects and influence engineering teams in their resolution, often taking the lead in the design and testing of the engineering solution.
• Ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements (performance, reliability, DFM, cost and compliance with international regulatory standards e.g. IEC, UL and EMC)
• Challenge and develop best practice and process improvements within team and across the wider RDD function
• Active participation in the sign-off of milestones
• Accountable for schematics and PCB layout review and sign-off of drawings

Skills

As an Associate Principal Engineer, you must be an experienced hardware design engineer and capable of working unsupervised to deliver high quality design solutions. You must have experience of the whole product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to mass production and product sustainability.

• Degree qualified in a relevant electronics discipline.
• At least minimum 8 years experience, in-depth knowledge and experienced in hardware design and integration (e.g. Power Electronics, Motor Drive, Battery Management, Analogue, Digital and Sensing technology)

• Working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout software such as Mentor Graphics.
• Experience using simulation tools to support design calculations, tolerance analysis, and documentation.
• Experience of electronics development through multiple product development cycles.
• Experience of DFM, DFX, and DFMEA.
• Knowledge of home appliance safety requirements and regulatory certification at PCBA and product levels, including EMC compliance.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
• Highly motivated and self-driven with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and able to influence the work of others
