Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Circuit Design: Design and develop switching power supply circuits and systems, including AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, and isolated and non-isolated power supplies, using state-of-the-art topologies and components.
- Component Selection: Select and evaluate components, including semiconductors, passive components, magnetics, and control ICs, to optimize performance, efficiency, and cost of power supply designs.
- Simulation and Analysis: Perform detailed circuit simulations and analysis using tools such as LTspice, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink to predict and optimize performance, stability, and transient response of power supply designs.
- PCB Layout and Layout Guidelines: Work closely with layout engineers to define layout guidelines, review and optimize PCB layouts, and ensure compliance with design rules, EMC requirements, and thermal constraints.
- Prototyping and Testing: Build and test prototypes of power supply circuits and systems, conduct design validation tests, and troubleshoot issues to ensure compliance with specifications and reliability requirements.
- Efficiency Optimization: Optimize power supply designs for efficiency, power density, and thermal performance through component selection, control algorithm optimization, and layout optimization techniques.
- EMI/EMC Compliance: Design power supplies with consideration for electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, and collaborate with EMC engineers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, design calculations, test plans, and design review materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, firmware engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure successful integration and production of power supply designs.
- Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in power supply design and power electronics, and continuously seek opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in switching power supply design, including experience with AC/DC and DC/DC converter topologies, control techniques, and magnetics design.
- Proficiency in power supply design principles, including switching converter theory, control loop design, and magnetic design principles.
- Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, passive components, magnetics, and control ICs commonly used in power supply design.
- Experience with PCB layout design tools and practices, including layout guidelines for high-frequency and high-power circuits.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards for power supply design, including EMI/EMC compliance and safety certifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
