Job Description - Switching Power Supply Design Engineer

Join our team as a Switching Power Supply Design Engineer, where you'll play a crucial role in researching, defining, and developing cutting-edge switching mode power supply (SMPS) topologies based on the specialties of our products. We're looking for talented individuals who are passionate about power electronics and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Circuit Design: Design and develop switching power supply circuits and systems, including AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, and isolated and non-isolated power supplies, using state-of-the-art topologies and components.
  2. Component Selection: Select and evaluate components, including semiconductors, passive components, magnetics, and control ICs, to optimize performance, efficiency, and cost of power supply designs.
  3. Simulation and Analysis: Perform detailed circuit simulations and analysis using tools such as LTspice, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink to predict and optimize performance, stability, and transient response of power supply designs.
  4. PCB Layout and Layout Guidelines: Work closely with layout engineers to define layout guidelines, review and optimize PCB layouts, and ensure compliance with design rules, EMC requirements, and thermal constraints.
  5. Prototyping and Testing: Build and test prototypes of power supply circuits and systems, conduct design validation tests, and troubleshoot issues to ensure compliance with specifications and reliability requirements.
  6. Efficiency Optimization: Optimize power supply designs for efficiency, power density, and thermal performance through component selection, control algorithm optimization, and layout optimization techniques.
  7. EMI/EMC Compliance: Design power supplies with consideration for electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, and collaborate with EMC engineers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  8. Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, design calculations, test plans, and design review materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  9. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, firmware engineers, mechanical engineers, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure successful integration and production of power supply designs.
  10. Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in power supply design and power electronics, and continuously seek opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in switching power supply design, including experience with AC/DC and DC/DC converter topologies, control techniques, and magnetics design.
  • Proficiency in power supply design principles, including switching converter theory, control loop design, and magnetic design principles.
  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor devices, passive components, magnetics, and control ICs commonly used in power supply design.
  • Experience with PCB layout design tools and practices, including layout guidelines for high-frequency and high-power circuits.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards for power supply design, including EMI/EMC compliance and safety certifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: The industry standard salary for Switching Power Supply Design Engineers typically ranges from $80,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness programs.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote work options and flexible hours.
  • Generous vacation and paid time off.
  • Professional development opportunities, including access to training programs, conferences, and workshops.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and collaborate with a talented team of engineers.
