BASIC FUNCTION
Position Overview
The Associate SOC analyst is a key member of the IT Security team and is responsible for security monitoring and responding to alerts and events. This security analyst will also be creating, tuning, and compiling metrics of all our security devices, along with documentation of processes and procedures.
What you’ll do at Insight
- Monitor network security events received from customer's monitored servers, and then take appropriate action based on customer's security policy
- Identify events of interest and investigate them for signs of abuse or misuse
- Review application, system, and network logs for evidence of malicious activity
- Document and report monitoring and incident response activities on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Ensure all security tools and infrastructure are operating normally
- Accurate and rapid response to security events
- Advise and consult with internal customers on risk assessment, threat modeling, and vulnerability management
- Interpret and apply security policies and procedures
- Participate in incident response
- Work in a rotational 24/7 SOC environment
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the IT security industry, including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes, and the development of new attacks and threat vectors
- Provide information security reporting, including security metrics as required
- Recommend solutions to mitigate risk in any activity that potentially impacts security of existing IT and information management
What you’ll need to join Insight
- Bachelor's/ undergraduate degree in a systems administration, networking, or technical field such as computer science or engineering, or equivalent work experience
- Experience with ArcSight or SIEM technology preferred
- Practical experience with security technologies like SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability management
- Solid understanding of computer network fundamentals including address resolution protocol, routing, network address translation, virtual private networks, and the OSI model
- Ability to read and interpret network diagrams
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment
