Job Description: Energy Infrastructure Research Analyst
About Interconnection.fyi Interconnection.fyi is a data intelligence startup specializing in U.S. electricity grid interconnection queue data. We track all generation projects across 50+ transmission queues—covering all major ISOs/RTOs and dozens of utility -specific queues nationwide. Our proprietary technology scrapes, standardizes, and cleans publicly available data from utilities, grid operators, and regulators, transforming fragmented public filings into actionable intelligence. Our customers include some of the largest energy companies, infrastructure investors, manufacturers, think tanks, and developers in the world.
The Role We are hiring an Energy Infrastructure Research Architect to join our research team. This is a research -intensive role focused on uncovering hard -to -find information about specific projects and entities in the U.S. power sector. You will conduct deep -dive investigations into: Transmission grid interconnection queue entries—primarily generation interconnection projects (solar, wind, storage, gas, hybrid facilities)
Data centers and large load interconnection projects—including hyperscale facilities, cryptocurrency mining operations, and industrial manufacturing loads Your work will directly inform our enterprise customers' investment, development, and competitive intelligence decisions.
Responsibilities
Investigate project ownership structures, including identifying the beneficial owners behind SPVs (Special Purpose Vehicles)
Research project status, permitting progress, offtake agreements, financing arrangements, and developer track records
Track data center developments and large industrial loads seeking grid interconnection Synthesize findings into detailed, well -sourced research reports
Input research findings into our internal tools and databases
Identify patterns across projects, developers, and regions that provide strategic insight Respond to ad -hoc research requests from enterprise customers
Requirements
Qualifications Required:
Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. bulk power system (transmission grid, ISOs/RTOs, FERC jurisdiction, interconnection processes)
Experience researching corporate ownership structures—comfort navigating state corporation filings, SEC filings, UCC records, and other public records to trace beneficial ownership
Strong investigative instincts and genuine interest in "solving puzzles" through public information
Excellent written communication skills—ability to produce clear, detailed reports Self -directed work style; comfortable with ambiguity in a startup environment Preferred: Prior experience in energy consulting, power sector journalism, infrastructure finance, or grid planning
Familiarity with FERC eLibrary, OASIS systems, state PUC dockets, or ISO/RTO interconnection portals Understanding of renewable energy development lifecycle (site control, permitting, PPA negotiation, COD)
Experience with data center power requirements and siting considerations
Background in competitive intelligence, due diligence, or investigative research
What We Offer
Ground -floor role at a growing startup serving Fortune 500 energy companies
Direct exposure to the intersection of energy transition, data infrastructure, and grid modernization
Flexible, remote -friendly work environment Opportunity to shape research methodologies and product development which are read by energy leaders and policymakers
Competitive compensation
So I'd prefer to select for underlying capability and learning velocity over deep prior exposure to the U.S. power sector specifically. The core traits we’d be looking for are:
Excellent English communication skills (both written and verbal)
Strong investigative instincts and comfort with open -ended research
Experience with skip -tracing or ownership research (corporate structures, beneficial ownership, etc.)
Ability to interpret messy, fragmented information into clear written outputs
Comfort working independently with limited direction, once trained Direct experience with U.S. energy markets, FERC, or ISO/RTOs would be a big plus, but not a hard requirement, since I think we have the resources to train on the relevant portions here
