Job Description - Head of Business Development

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) works with some of New Zealand's most innovative and forward-thinking companies, helping them grow internationally.  Our people are based in 37 offices, working across 24 time zones and 40 languages to support New Zealand businesses in over 100 countries.
 

What you’ll be doing:  Te whakamahere  

Our team are looking for a well-connected and energetic Head of Business Development Manager with strong networks in The Philippines to help New Zealand businesses enter and thrive in the local market. 

This is an exciting and varied role, with plenty of opportunity for you to use your existing experience and connections across the Technology, Specialised Manufacturing and/or Food and Beverage sectors. We do not expect you to be an expert in all sectors, but relevant and recent experience in one or more, and a willingness to learn in and connect in other sectors is important. You will proactively support New Zealand companies to develop and execute their business growth plans, including identifying and providing strategic advice, introductions, market analysis, and research. You’ll also be involved in the identification of potential in-market partners, help develop new channels to market and identify potential growth opportunities.  

A superb relationship manager and team player, you will also be part of a global organisation working with colleagues in your region, New Zealand and our other international offices to achieve the New Zealand government's economic development goals. 

 
What you’ll need to be successful:  Ō Pūkenga 

This role requires someone who is agile and who is happy to work across a variety of sectors as required.   You’ll be someone with commercial smarts and know-how to manage a portfolio of customer companies, you’ll use your curiosity and strategic skills in evaluating their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities and supporting them with market entry and growth strategies. You will be adaptable, flexible and think outside the box.  
 
Proven commercial acumen is critical, as is the ability to work alongside people a variety of levels including CEO level. You will have superior communication, business consulting and relationship management skills with the ability to build rapport quickly. Well-connected in your industry, the Philippines, and Asia, you’ll have a strong sense for doing business here. Trade experience would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
