The role is Head/ Lead Strategic Ecosystems that is primarily responsible for processes required to build the organization’s strategic partner ecosystem. This includes designing the ecosystem architecture, seeding and developing opportunities, advancing partner relations, and leading M&As. The role also functions as Strategy business partner liaising with other business units and functional areas, especially in matters that require strategic attention. The role works in close coordination with the Strategy Team, Philippine Leadership Team, counterparts in the Regional and Corporate Offices, and Legal team.

Partnership Strategy and Architecture

  • Articulates and evolves the partnership strategy continuously with the overarching strategic directions at country, regional and enterprise levels, acknowledging the needs of business units and functions
  • Designs and maintains the company’s strategic ecosystem architecture in line with the competitive advantages the strategies aim to build
  • Draws leadership attention to opportunities to strengthen the company’s strategic growth agenda by augmenting external capabilities through partnerships
  • Builds a steady pipeline of potential opportunities along a partnership lifecycle strategy to ensure the sustainable delivery of partner-dependent capabilities from Sun Life’s external value chain

Partnership Development and Value Realization

  • Supports the development of the case for M&As , and develops deal approval strategies, with an advanced appreciation of risks and required mitigation
  • Leads Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) portfolios and processes, including target scanning, valuation, due diligence and integration processes throughout the M&A life cycle
  • Initiates and recommends the approach to the incubation of partnership development opportunities in the early stages of business integration or proof pilots, and contributes to the advancement of partner relations
  • Partners cross-functionally with execution teams and information gatekeepers to ensure project delivery , effective management reporting , and sustainable value creation from partnerships
  • Drives and evolves partnership decision processes , including the regular meetings of partnership steering committees across parties

Partnership Brand and Relationship Management

  • Develops and communicates the compelling brand promise and value proposition of Sun Life to target business partners, and makes it a top-of-mind partner for financial services.
  • Drives the creatives and execution for the total partner experience based on a concrete understanding of Sun Life’s strategy and capabilities, and the target partners needs and preferences.
  • Mobilizes the maturity of key partnerships along the partnership lifecycle to deepen relationships and multiple value creation efforts, potentially enhancing onboarding processes of key partnerships.
  • Supports the CEO and Sun Life presidents in developing and delivering communications that promote the strategic partnership agenda
  • Provides BU and partnership support for partnership-related goals

Education and experience

  • University degree in Management, Economics or related course, preferably with units in post-diploma or graduate program in Business Administration
  • 8 years of cumulative experience, with at least 5 years exposure to multiple disciplines in financial services

Communication scope

  • Collaborates with business information gatekeepers and strategic partners
  • Reports directly to the CSEO and aligns with Corporate and Regional Office Corporate Development Functions
  • Supports the Philippine Leadership Team
  • Engages with Legal or consultants for M&A processes
  • Interacts with other internal and external parties in both traditional and agile approaches

Total number of direct reports: none initially, subject to annual revisit as the function evolves

Sales metrics: As agreed in performance goals or business case
