Job Description - Laser Cutter Estimator

Responsibilities

Review and interpret customer drawings, technical specifications, and RFQs (Requests for Quotation) to determine laser cutting requirements.

Accurately calculate material types, thicknesses, and quantities, cutting times, and other resources needed.

Prepare and submit detailed, competitive quotes using approved quoting/tendering software, CRM, and ERP systems.

Collaborate with production and programming teams to ensure estimates are achievable and aligned with production capacities.

Liaise with customers to clarify technical details and offer value-engineered or alternative solutions where appropriate.

Provide, or assist with, material nesting and laser programming to improve material utilisation and reduce waste.

Maintain accurate records of quotes, material pricing, and job histories within the ERP system.

Monitor material costs, market trends, and recommend adjustments to estimating parameters when required.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for the estimating, nesting, and programming processes.

Follow up on submitted quotes and communicate outcomes effectively to the sales and operations teams.

Requirements

Solid technical knowledge of laser cutting processes, materials, and tolerances (preferably with Yawei machines or similar).

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files.

Experience with laser cutting quoting/tendering software, ERP, and CRM systems.

Familiarity with material nesting software and laser machine programming (highly advantageous).

Strong numerical, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.

Excellent communication skills to work with customers, internal teams, and suppliers.

Time management skills to handle multiple quotes and deadlines simultaneously.

Problem-solving mindset, able to identify cost-effective solutions. Qualifications & Experience

Previous experience in an estimating or technical sales support role within a laser cutting, fabrication, or metalworking environment.

Familiarity with 3-axis plate & sheet and/or 5-axis tube laser cutting machinery.

Knowledge of metals and materials (stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, etc.) and their cutting characteristics.

Competence with Microsoft Office and industry-specific quoting/nesting software.

Trade qualification in fabrication, sheet-metal, or related discipline (desirable).

Experience in laser machine programming and material nesting (highly advantageous).

Work Arrangement

Work Setup: On-site

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 am Melbourne time, should complete 8.5 hours work
