Job Description - Mechanical BIM Lead

Role Overview
The Mechanical Pipe BIM Lead will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and quality authority for mechanical and process pipe modeling across VIATechnik projects, primarily supporting US-based teams. This individual will lead constructability-focused detailing standards, reduce modeling errors, and elevate the overall quality and consistency of pipe model and drawing deliverables. The role combines technical leadership, training
development, and quality control oversight to ensure compliance with US mechanical codes and project-specific material matrices. The BIM Lead will mentor and guide modelers while proactively coordinating with project managers to resolve detailing issues before they impact construction. Success in this role will be measured by measurable reductions in constructability errors, improved detailing efficiency, and the establishment of standardized best practices across projects.
As part of the company’s evolving digital strategy, elements of this role are supported by
BIM automation tools, model coordination platforms, and clash detection systems.

Employee Value Proposition (EVP)
This role represents a significant leadership opportunity for a technically strong piping professional who wants to move beyond production work and shape standards across an international organization. The Mechanical Pipe BIM Lead will directly influence how mechanical and process piping is detailed, reviewed, and delivered for complex US-based projects. The position offers visibility with US project managers and the opportunity to architect training systems that will impact long-term organizational capability. For a professional motivated by quality, mentorship, and technical excellence, this is a career move into recognized technical leadership.

Major Performance Objectives (First-Year Success Outcomes)

Major Objective 1: Reduce Constructability Errors by 15% Within 12 Months. Implement structured QA/QC review processes, constructability checklists, and standardized modeling review workflows that result in at least a 15% measurable reduction in pipe-related constructability errors and field-driven revisions. Success will be validated through tracked issue logs, reduced RFI counts, and improved first-pass approval rates.

Major Objective 2: Ensure 100% Compliance to the Approved Material Matrix Across All Active Projects. Establish a systematic review protocol ensuring all mechanical and process pipe models align with the approved material matrix and project specifications. Success will be measured by zero material non-compliance findings during project audits.

Major Objective 3: Design and Launch a Comprehensive Pipe Detailing Training Program Within 6 Months. Develop and implement a structured training curriculum covering mechanical pipe standards, process piping detailing best practices, US mechanical code compliance, and modeling workflows. Success will be measured by improved detailing accuracy and reduced rework.

Major Objective 4: Standardize and Improve Pipe Detailing Best Practices Across the BIM Team. Define and implement standardized detailing templates, spool drawing standards, and review checklists to improve modeling consistency and efficiency.

Critical Subtasks

  • Lead technical consultations on complex pipe detailing issues and provide constructability guidance.

  • Coordinate proactively with US-based project managers to clarify detailing requirements.

  • Develop and maintain constructability and compliance checklists.

  • Conduct structured QA/QC reviews of mechanical pipe models using Revit and Navisworks.

  • Mentor and develop BIM team members through coaching and feedback.

  • Continuously evaluate and integrate AI or automation tools to improve modeling accuracy and efficiency.

Culture & Situation Fit
This role requires a high-standard technical leader who thrives in a quality-driven, accountability-focused environment supporting international projects. The successful candidate must communicate clearly in English, work across time zones, and influence team standards without direct authority.

Win-Win Hiring Statement
This role is a win-win opportunity for a senior piping professional ready to transition into recognized technical leadership. The company gains measurable reductions in errors and standardized best practices, while the individual gains international exposure and strategic visibility.
